Mission

I have a mission.

To be more exact, I want to go on a mission trip.

Any Joe or Jane can sign up with any church out there going to any impoverished country and it’s a done deal. Before you know it, you’ll be building huts, digging wells, or setting up clinics in a place so far removed from what you’ve known that Toto and Kansas won’t even register in your mindset.

But that’s not what I want. Or rather, that’s not where God has been leading my heart.

For years I’ve watched people I know travel to faraway parts of the world. I’ve listened to their stories. But I’ve never felt a desire to do anything like that.

I’m a follower of Jesus, my sweet Savior, but my interest in helping others outside of my world stopped at my signing a check to some missions’ group.

Until a couple of years ago.

When I discovered the world of blogging and read about a group that completely touched my heart, I began to change. Actually, God changed me.

Now, it wasn’t overnight.

It’s been a process, y’all.

My sweet Jesus knows I have a ‘thing’ about change. [This is where TechDaddy would be snickering in the corner.] {{Hey! I can still hear you, honey.}}

Which is why my King has been gradually molding my heart.

Because this ‘group’ I speak of isn’t just anybody.

They are children. Little ones who have been discarded, rejected, unwanted, abandoned. Because of disease and death. Because of someone else’s fear. Because of the mere facts surrounding their births.

Orphans are what people call them. Some with no living family to take them, others with living family who blatantly do not want them. They are everywhere.  Africa, China, South America...

These little ones live in homes with large numbers of children and not enough adults to go around. And I wonder “Do they feel loved by anyone?”

Well, do they? Do they get what my kids and yours get? Hugged throughout the day…someone to rock them to sleep…a lap for them to sit on and arms to snuggle them as a story is read…someone who says “I love you”…shouldn’t they get that?

Absolutely.

So that’s what I feel God leading me toward. Not to build houses or dig wells. But to play with and rock and laugh and sing and tell stories and love.

I see their names and read their stories. And now I know.

This is what God has been molding me for.

That sounds easy, right?
